ROAD CLOSURES ANNOUNCED FOR McKEE STREET AND VAN NORTWICK AVENUE DUE TO INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
BATAVIA, IL – The City of Batavia is notifying residents and motorists of upcoming road closures related to a critical infrastructure improvement project tied to the Pulte Ashton Ridge Development. Beginning May 27, full road reconstruction and watermain replacement will take place on portions of McKee Street and Van Nortwick Avenue, requiring both streets to be closed to through traffic for the duration of the work. The project is expected to conclude in early August.
This City-directed project involves the complete reconstruction of pavement and road base, installation of new curbs, and replacement of the existing watermain infrastructure. The affected areas include:
- McKee Street from Stonefield Way to Van Nortwick Avenue
- Van Nortwick Avenue from Wilson Street to Illinois Avenue
These improvements are necessary to enhance long-term roadway integrity and ensure continued water system reliability.
Residents will be impacted by the following:
- Driveway access will be maintained whenever possible, though temporary restrictions may occur—particularly during curb installations and work directly in front of homes. Advance notice (typically 1–2 days) will be provided.
- On-street parking restrictions will be relaxed in affected areas; specific instructions will be delivered via door hangers.
- Temporary water service interruptions may occur during watermain connections. Residents will be notified in advance whenever possible.
To expedite completion before the new school year begins in August, the roads will be closed to through traffic during construction. Detour routes will be clearly marked to guide drivers around the closure.
