Prairie Landing Golf Club Celebrates 30 Years Down the Longest Drive!
30th Anniversary Celebrations and History
West Chicago, IL – January 17, 2025, Prairie Landing, owned by DuPage Airport, is a remarkable public golf course in the Chicago area, designed by the esteemed Robert Trent Jones Jr. Prairie Landing was originally a marshland and with it being adjacent to the airport, zoning ordinances made it difficult to develop any large-scale buildings. The only thing left to build was a golf course featuring a links-style layout, characterized by its sparse tree coverage due to its proximity to the airport. Construction started in 1991, with its inaugural full year of play in 1995.
Picture thick, tangled fescue grass, fairways sprinkled with bumpy surprises, a buffet of sand traps, and towering prairie grass, this course is nature's ultimate obstacle course no matter which tee you tackle. And when the wind starts howling across the plains, even the pros might find themselves wrestling with this beast of a course!
This award-winning course stretches over 7,042 yards and presents a distinctive configuration, including five par-5s and five par-3s. It also offers an exceptional practice facility, encompassing a driving range with target greens, two practice holes, and a dedicated chipping and short-game area. The spacious pro shop provides seasonal merchandise, while McChesney’s Pub & Grill serves upscale American cuisine, enhancing the overall experience for visitors and is open to the public.
Prairie Landing takes pride in keeping its course as fresh as a morning dew (pun totally intended!) with all the latest bells and whistles, like snazzy golf cart GPS systems and a shiny new irrigation system! In the autumn of 2023, Prairie Landing began the construction of an entirely new irrigation system, which was finalized by late June 2024. “The new system incorporates a more efficient and modern design with better irrigation coverage. It also includes using new and more efficient technologies in piping, fittings, electronics, and the control system” states Course Superintendent, Eric Mundt.
In honor of Prairie Landing Golf Club's 30th Anniversary, the club will host a year-long celebration featuring various monthly events, with a grand celebration event in June. Prairie Landing Golf Course is a public golf course owned by the DuPage Airport. The golf course’s architect is Robert Trent Jones Jr. It is a “prairie links” style, par 72, 6950-yard, golf course featuring immaculate course conditions.
