New Moon Vegan Inducted into Illinois Made Program

Join Batavia MainStreet and the City of Batavia in congratulating New Moon Vegan on their induction into Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Illinois Made Program this November. The Illinois Office of Tourism selects a group of small businesses each year that exemplify the authentic experiences and innovative products that make Illinois an incredible destination for residents and visitors alike.

Located at 119 S. Batavia Ave. in Downtown Batavia, New Moon Vegan is a woman-owned, small batch vegan bakery and café with a curated retail space featuring goods from local makers. Every treat—from pastries to breads to savory items—is crafted with 100% plant-based ingredients, using seasonal and locally sourced products whenever possible.

New Moon Vegan is owned by married couple Jo Colagiacomi and Jay Weichun, who bring their ItalianAmerican roots from Staten Island, NY to their menu offerings. The duo began their entrepreneurial journey at Batavia MainStreet’s Boardwalk Shops, a small-business incubator program where New Moon Vegan quickly became a community favorite. Their scratch-made approach includes everything from house-made seitan and butter to almond milk used in their pastries.

“New Moon Vegan embodies what makes downtown Batavia special — innovation, creativity, and a deep commitment to community,” said Kristen Desler, Assistant Director of Batavia MainStreet. “Jo and Jay have created more than a bakery. They’ve built a warm, welcoming space that draws visitors from across Illinois and showcases the incredible talent growing right here in Batavia.”

While the café attracts many vegan and dairy-free guests, a significant portion of their regulars are nonvegan customers who simply love the quality and flavor of their pastries. New Moon Vegan has quickly become a regional destination.

“Watching New Moon Vegan grow from a Boardwalk Shop to an Illinois Made honoree has been inspiring,” said Desler. “Jo and Jay have created something truly special, and we are honored to celebrate this milestone with them.”
