New Events Added to Flag Day Celebration

BATAVIA, Il (May 20, 2025) – The community is invited to attend the annual Batavia Flag Day Celebration on Saturday, June 14. This year’s event commemorates 250 years since Paul Revere’s ride, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and the founding of the United States Army.
 
The celebration includes three events scheduled throughout the day:
New! Presentation on Father of Flag Day, 1 to 2 p.m. City Council Chambers, Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Ave. Illinois author Tom Emery will present his research on Batavia’s dentist, Dr. Bernard Cigrand, referred to by many as the Father of Flag Day. The presentation is sponsored by the Batavia Historical Society.
 
Flag Day ceremony at the Flag Day Monument, 2 to 4 p.m. Flag Day Monument, across from City Hall. The celebration includes musical performances by the Batavia Community Band, appearances by veterans, local first responders, and patriotic organizations, the unveiling of new personalized bricks, sealing of time capsules, and guided tours of the monument. Families will also enjoy checking out a fire truck and meeting Batavia Police Department’s newest member, comfort dog River.
 
New! Red, White and Brews: Hanging with Our Heroes, 4 to 6 p.m. Batavia Overseas VFW Post 1197, 645 S. River Road. The day wraps up with games, presentations on American history, patriotic music, and food trucks, drinks for purchase at the VFW bar.
 
All are encouraged to celebrate patriotic pride, unity, and National Flag Day together on June 14.
