Master Woodworker Showcases ''Wood Weaving'' Charcuterie Boards at 48th Annual Holmstad Bazaar

Annual Bazaar to Feature Handcrafted Creations Supporting Benevolent Care, Scholarships, and Resident programs
  
Batavia, IL: Covenant Living at the Holmstad resident David Anderson has spent more than a decade shaping the community’s wood shop into a hub of craftsmanship, creativity, and camaraderie. Anderson and his wife, Merrie, moved to The Holmstad upon retirement, and he quickly became an integral part of the resident‑run wood shop by serving as its manager for the past 12 years.
 
This year, Anderson is debuting a standout creation for the 48th Annual Holmstad Bazaar— hand‑crafted charcuterie boards made using a striking “wood weaving” technique. Each board appears intricately woven from maple, walnut, and mahogany. Designed to be both functional and decorative, the boards highlight the precision and artistry of the wood shop team.
 
“The skill of the woodworkers and the accuracy of our machines enables us to create high‑quality items worthy of becoming gifts, too,” Anderson said.
 
The Bazaar, scheduled for Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., draws hundreds of shoppers each year. “Last year’s turnout was incredible, with more than 700 community members shopping the unique items our residents crafted,” said Dick Sackett, co‑chair of the event. “Their support helps fund our Benevolent Care Fund, student scholarships, and many resident‑run programs.”
 
Open to the public, the Bazaar features a wide variety of items including wood and needle crafts, designer knits, plants, quilts, baked goods, and second‑hand treasures such as jewelry, furniture, books, and household items. Select items can be previewed at HolmstadBazaar.com.
 
Shoppers will also have the chance to enter a cash drawing, and purchases may be made with credit cards, cash, or checks.
