League of Women Voters to Host October 9^th Candidate Forum in Advance of the November 5^th General Election races for US Congress 11, IL Rep 49, IL Senate 25, and Judge of the 16^th Judicial Circuit 4^th Subcircuit

The program will include a Ballot Initiative Presentation with the Kane County Forest Preserve District
 
BATAVIA, IL – The Leagues of Women Voters of the Aurora Area, Elgin Area, and Central Kane County will be co-hosting a hybrid candidate forum on October 9^th. The event covers races for US Congress 11, IL State Rep 49, IL State Senate 25, and Judge of the 16^th Judicial Circuit 4^th Subcircuit. Following the candidate forum, there will be a short presentation by the Kane County Forest Preserve District staff to explain the Land Acquisition & Preserve Improvement Referendum appearing on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot.

Programming will begin at 6:30pm on Wednesday, October 9^th, 2024 at Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Avenue, Batavia. Residents are encouraged to participate by joining the live in-person audience, watching the live-stream on BATV, or viewing the recording on the BATV YouTube Channel. The candidate forum will be moderated by a member of the League of Women Voters. Candidates will be given an opportunity to provide one-minute opening statements, after which time the candidates will be presented with a series of questions. Candidates will be given one minute to respond to each question they receive. Following questions, each candidate will be given one minute for a closing statement. Members of the public wishing to submit questions for the candidates may do so in writing during the live in-person events. Consistent with normal League of Women Voters practice, questions will be reviewed by League members for appropriateness before they are presented to the candidates.

A recording of the program will be posted on the websites of the hosting Leagues and will be available for viewing on the IL Voter Guide website (https://illinoisvoterguide.org/), which is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund.

Here are some important dates to know for the upcoming election:

• September 26, 2024: First day of early voting at Kane County Elections main office and Aurora satellite.
• October 8, 2024: Last day to register to vote using the regular process.
• October 9 – November 4, 2024: Grace period registration and voting at designated sites.
• October 21, 2024: First day that early voting is expanded to remaining early voting sites.
• November 5, 2024: Election Day! Polls open from 6 am to 7 pm.
