League of Women Voters Celebrates National Voter Registration Day with a Focus on Younger Citizens
BATAVIA, IL – The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County (lwvckcil.com) today announced they would be hosting several events this month surrounding National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters. The League will be out in force on Tuesday, September 17th at the Sugar Grove campus of Waubonsee Community College during the WCC Engagement Fair and Spirit Week. League members will be assisting voters who want to register to vote or update their registration if they have moved. The League will also be holding voter registration events at Geneva High School on September 25th and at Oswego East High School on September 26th.
“Every eligible American deserves the chance to participate in this year’s pivotal elections,” said Patti Lackman, Voter Service Chair and Co-Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County. “Voter registration is the first step to ensuring your voice is heard. We want to make sure every citizen in our community who wants the opportunity to vote on Election Day is registered by October 8th.”
National Voter Registration Day is an annual nonpartisan campaign to register hundreds of thousands of voters in communities and online. Embraced by a host of celebrities, bipartisan elected officials, and organizations, NVRD leverages the collective impact of thousands of nationwide community partners every year, including hundreds of League of Women Voters groups.

Students and other citizens who register to vote during the National Voter Registration Day events will have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming November 5, 2024 General Election. Here are some important dates to know for the upcoming election:
- September 26, 2024: First day of early voting at Kane County Elections main office and Aurora satellite.
- October 8, 2024: Last day to register to vote using the regular process.
- October 9 – November 4, 2024: Grace period registration and voting at designated sites.
- October 21, 2024: First day that early voting is expanded to remaining early voting sites.
- November 5, 2024: Election Day! Polls open from 6 am to 7 pm.
