CITY OF BATAVIA ANNOUNCES START TO PEACE BRIDGE RAMP CONSTRUCTION

BATAVIA, IL – Construction of the new Peace Bridge Bike Ramp is set to begin the week of April 28. This project will enhance the current stair-only access with an ADA-compliant ramp, providing a smooth and inclusive connection between the lower Fox River Trail and the Peace Bridge.

This infrastructure upgrade is designed to improve accessibility for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with mobility challenges.

The new ramp will be located on the east side of the Fox River, near the intersection of North River and State streets. During construction, a designated pedestrian corridor will maintain access to the Peace Bridge and adjacent walkway. Temporary short-term closures may occur as needed to ensure public safety.

To accommodate construction activities, North River Street between State and Spring streets may be temporarily closed. If closures occur, detour signage will be posted for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

To support the Batavia Farmers Market and other community events, no construction will take place on Saturdays.

Construction will continue through the summer and fall, with the new ramp anticipated to open in spring 2026. All scheduled events, including the Farmers Market, will proceed as planned during the project timeline.

The Peace Bridge Ramp project is funded through the City’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) program. For updates and additional information, please visit bataviail.gov/peacebridgeramp.
