Children, Gardening and Nature

Incorporating nature photography into homeschooling by April Duda

Please join us for the first meeting of 2025, on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:45 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library. Local Batavia photographer, April Duda, will speak about the importance of incorporating nature photography into the homeschooling curriculum.

April Duda is herself a homeschooling mom of three boys. She is also a photographer, and gardener with a deep appreciation for nature. April incorporates gardening and nature into her homeschooling curriculum and believes it is central to teaching children the importance of the environment and how small acts can make a big difference. Through hands-on gardening, she teaches how plants grow, where food comes from, and why it’s essential to respect and care for the world around us. Photography helps share her perspective with children, encouraging them to appreciate the natural world, embrace curiosity, and find joy in the familiar while understanding the value of preservation.

April has been the exclusive photographer for Batavia MainStreet since 2019. She enjoys spending time outdoors - whether it’s hiking and camping or exploring the history and beauty of national and state parks with her husband and family. She enjoys capturing unique perspectives of plants and geographical features through her photography, both on her travels and in her own garden.

The Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners is open to all people interested in gardening. For more information, see our website at bataviaplaindirtgardeners.org, or contact us at bataviaplaindirtgardeners@gmail.com.
