Batavia, IL - The BPS101 Board of Education is pleased to announce that Sean Degman will be the next Principal of Hoover-Wood Elementary School. After serving as Principal of HWS for 11 years, Gina Greenwald will retire at the end of this school year.

Mr. Degman is excited to step into this incredible community, build relationships, and work alongside a team passionate about making a difference for kids every day. Sean expressed, “There’s something special about a school that feels like a family, and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

His love for learning, coaching, and building strong school communities has shaped his education journey. Mr. Degman started as a first-grade teacher, later moved into instructional coaching, and eventually became an assistant principal, focusing on shaping school culture and supporting teachers in meaningful ways. When asked what he wants the HWS community to know about his background, Mr. Degman shared, “My passion has remained the same: helping teachers and students grow. I believe in the power of collaboration, the importance of relationships, and the impact of a school culture that lifts everyone up.”

In accepting this role, Sean said, “I feel incredibly grateful to be joining the HWS family and can’t wait to get to know each of you. Our work is meaningful, challenging, and rewarding, and I’m honored to take this journey with you. My door is always open, and I look forward to learning, growing, and celebrating successes together. Let’s make Hoover-Wood the best place it can be for our students, our staff, and our community. To our HWS students, I can't wait to meet you all and learn more about each of you. We'll have a fun year and certainly enjoy the journey together.”
