About Suicide Prevention Services of America:
Suicide Prevention Services of America (SPSA) is a nonprofit dedicated to reducing suicide through prevention, intervention, and postvention services. Based in Batavia, IL, we provide critical resources throughout the Fox Valley area and beyond, including a crisis hotline, support groups, counseling, and education programs to support those affected by mental health challenges. We are seeking a Part-Time Grant Writer to help us secure funding to sustain and expand our programs.
Job Summary:
The Part-Time Grant Writer will play an essential role in SPSA's fundraising efforts by identifying, preparing, and submitting grant proposals. This position requires a candidate who can communicate the urgency and importance of suicide prevention to potential funders. Working closely with our Executive Director and program staff, the Grant Writer will contribute to SPSA’s growth and outreach by ensuring we secure funding that enables us to reach those in need.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with SPSA’s mission and services.
- Write, edit, and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications.
- Coordinate with program staff to gather information and data to support proposal narratives.
- Maintain an organized schedule of application deadlines and submission dates.
- Track the progress of submitted proposals, manage reporting requirements, and maintain accurate records.
- Cultivate relationships with grant-making organizations by providing updates and engaging funders in SPS’s mission.
- Maintain a database of past, current, and prospective funders.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of grant writing experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Proven success in securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to craft a compelling story that communicates urgency and mission.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently on a part-time basis and manage multiple projects.
- Familiarity with donor databases or grant management software is a plus.
- Approximately 10-15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.
- Competitive hourly rate or contract-based pay, depending on experience.
