Noteworthy Acoustic Concerts presents Dave Martin on June 9 at 1 p.m. Armed with an acoustic guitar and wry wit, Dave Martin writes open-hearted songs whose thematic reaches have included traveling, the ocean, pirates, baseball players and his Midwestern background. The folk-tinged tunes on Martin's newly released album, Imagination in Focus, exude a charm and zeal similar to that of his fellow suburban Chicago native and musical influence, Steve Goodman, and his lyrics frequently exhibit a Buffettian-like irreverence. This makes sense when considering the genesis of Martin's musical sensibility; citing singer/songwriters of the 1970s as catalytic to his interest in performing, he took up guitar as a child after meeting James Taylor. Dave Martin honors the storytelling singer/songwriter legacy he embraces, while he contributes to its essence.
