Description
Twice a year, Toastmasters holds speaking contests for its members. This year's Fall Contest topics are Humorous Speeches and Tall Tales. Our club contests were held on October 3rd, with two of our members qualified from each of those contests to advance to the next level: The Area Contest, held on October 11th. Frank Lardino from Talk of the Town Toastmasters has advanced from there to the Division Contest in Tall Tales.
Contests do not follow our normal agenda, but do provide an opportunity to see what Toastmasters members from around the Fox Valley area are able to do with the skills they have learned at Toastmasters.
When will you be called upon to do a presentation in a real world scenario? A toast at a wedding? Saying something at a graduation? Being asked to stand up and say a few words at the spur of the moment? Maybe your boss asks you, at the last minute, to do a presentation, because the other person was not available, sick, etc.
If you want to reduce your nervousness in front of a crowd, to gain confidence when speaking, or even to refine already-strong speaking skills, Talk of the Town Toastmasters is the right place for you. The added bonus? Our club gives you great opportunities to develop and refine leadership skills. Come join us for a free meeting or two.
Please plan to arrive at your first meeting about ten minutes early so we can greet you, meet you, and answer your questions. We look forward to seeing you!
Talk of the Town Toastmasters was established in 2009 to bring Toastmasters International to Batavia, Illinois. Our club is made up of a great group of people who are each committed to becoming better public speakers and more effective leaders. About 20 members and guests -- who come from all walks of life -- attend each weekly meeting.
