Description
Wednesday, June 14 is Flag Day in the United States. Batavia has a special connection with Flag Day because of Dr. Bernard Cigrand, a dentist in Batavia for decades who is considered by many to be the Father of Flag Day. Dr. Cigrand worked tirelessly to promote a day of recognition for the American flag, and on June 14, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed such a day throughout the United States. Every June 14, Batavia celebrates our nation’s emblem, the stars and stripes, and pays tribute to Dr. Cigrand for all he means to our community.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 14 from 6:30-8:00pm
WHERE: Peg Bond Center on Batavia’s Riverwalk
WHY: To celebrate Flag Day, honor Dr. Cigrand, and learn about the progress of the Flag Day Monument being built next to Batavia City Hall by the Fox Valley Patriotic Organization
