Margaret Stender serves as the President/Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Sky, of the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). Ms. Stender brings to this role 22 years of extensive leadership experience in business development, operations, management and marketing for high-profile brands and business units of Fortune 100 companies.
In recent years, Ms. Stender led two $500MM business units for PepsiCo as President of Juice Drinks (Tropicana shelf-stable) and President of Ready-to-Eat Cereals (including LIFE, Cap’n Crunch, Quaker Oats Squares brands). She spent 18 years at the Quaker Oats Company in Chicago. Additionally, Ms. Stender served as Sr. VP and General Manager with Rand McNally & Co., and was VP for Americast Cable Television during the launch of a competitive cable TV business in the Midwest.
In addition to her corporate experience, Ms. Stender was a Division I collegiate basketball player at the University of Richmond where she was elected co-captain for three-years. After college graduation, Ms. Stender taught and coached at Norfolk Academy, a college preparatory school. She was promoted to Athletic Director after just one year teaching. Her efforts at Norfolk Academy garnered widespread support from parents and administrators as she effected permanent change to the curricula that increased opportunities for girls to participate in athletics.
A Virginia native, Ms. Stender has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Richmond and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Virginia. She has lived in Chicago for the last 25 years and has two children: Nicholas 15 and Kathryn 9 years old. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for The Latin School of Chicago and the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana. She is also a member of The Chicago Network.
