AUDITIONS for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by Edward Albee January 5 & 6 at 7:30pm Albright Theatre 100 N. Island Ave Batavia, IL 60510 The Albright Theatre is located onthe 3rd floor of the Batavia government building. Auditions will consist of cold readings fromthe script. Callbacks are optional and may be held on Tuesday, January 7 at 7:30 pm (by invitation only). After more than a few drinks George and Martha return home from a party when Martha announces that she has invited a young couple in for a nightcap. Their guests are Nick, an opportunistic new professor (who teaches at the same college as George) and Nick’s shatteringly naïve newbride, Honey. When they arrive the charade begins! Drinks flow and inhibitions melt, but all seemsto be fun and games until the edgy banter reveals too much. Behind the salty laughter and thinly veiled innuendo is a dark undercurrent of tragedy and despair. Casting 2 Men (20s-late 50s) and 2 Women (20s-early 60s) Character Descriptions: Martha - A boisterous, vicious- tongued, domineering woman who is angry, frustrated and unfulfilled. She is at once a vixen and a shrew. (40s-early 60s) George - Martha's husband, slightly younger than her, a middle aged history professor whose life and career have been full of disappointments. It's because of his sharp wit and intelligence that he can ward off Martha's attacks. (Late 30s-late 50s) Honey - The submissive, doll-like wife ofNick. Her naïve child-like talk induces other characters to recount their stories yet she remains unaffected by the verbal dueling. (20s-early 30s) Nick - A competitive and ambitious new professorof biology. Although he seems to be well intentioned he is also ruthlessly deceptive. (Late 20s-30s) Performance dates for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” are February 28, March 1, 2, 7, 8, 9,14 & 15. Rated MA.
