Auditions for “Beautiful Thing” by Jonathan Harvey March 3 & 4 at 7:30pm Albright Theatre 100 N. Island Ave Batavia, IL 60510 The Albright Theatre is located on the 3rd floor of the government building. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacksare optional and may be held on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:30 pm (by invitation only). WE DON’T CHOOSE WHO WE LOVE. LOVE CHOOSES US. Teenage boys Jamie and Ste (short for Steve) are neighbors in aworking-class housing project in London. Neither has an ideal home life – Jamie’s mother, Sandra, covers her pain with scathing humor and Ste’s father and brother abuse him emotionally and physically.When Jamie’s feelings for Ste become romantic the two begin a tentaive relationship – leaving eachyoung boy a little less alone in the world. Casting 3 Males (ages 17-40) and 2 Women (ages 17-50) Character Descriptions: Jamie: Male, Sandra’s son, shy lad, sensitive (17-25, unless can playteen) Leah: Female, Jamie’s friend and neighbor, highschool drop-out, obssessed with Mama Cass (17-25, unless can play younger) Sandra: Female, Jamie’s mother, single mom, rough life, bartender (30-50) Ste: Male, Jamie’s neighbor slightly athletic, angst-ridden (17-25, unless can play teen) Tony: Sandra’s younger boyfriend, laid back, middle class worker, trying to fit in (25-40) - All roles require a South London (best described as a slang Cockney) accent. - This script calls for Jamie and Ste to share an on-stage kiss – actors auditioning for these roles must be comfortable with this. Performance dates for “Beautiful Thing” are April 26, 27, 28, May 3, 4, 5, 10 & 11.Rated MA(LDV).
