Affordable Care Act: Where are We...and Where are We Going

We are lucky to have Mike Deagle who has 19 years experience in providing benefit plans to a wide variety of businesses. He is the current president of the Illinois State Association of Health Underwriters. Mike is very current on the status of the Affordable Care Act.

Mike will review what has happened up to this point since the Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010. Once we have reviewed most items that many of the owner’s may not even be aware of, we will delve into what is coming and what to prepare for in 2014 and beyond. We will spend time discussing the Illinois Exchange or “Markteplace” that will be open for business by accepting applications on October 1, 2013 for effective dates beginning January 1, 2014.

We will continue to explore what the exchanges may mean for their businesses. We will spend time discussing Affordable Care Act and ERISA Compliance, along with the various fees and penalties that are a part of the law and the new Waiting period requirement for group plans. We will look into the future and discuss the Employer Mandate that has now been postponed until January 1, 2015 and the “Pay or Play” tax penalties. We will also discuss the Cadillac Tax that will be beginning in 2018. In the end, we will want a robust question/answer period that should make all attendees more knowledgeable about the law and its ramifications.
