A brief ceremony at the Peg Bond Center will be followed by the lighting of 3000+ candle luminarias along the route of the Batavia Riverwalk adjacent to the municipal center and Depot Museum. The luminarias are planned to be lit between8 and 10 p.m. and all area residents are invite to attend and reflect on their own personal memoriesof that date.
Each luminaria will contain the name of a victim who died in the attacks on America that day. The Batavia Fire Department is overseeing a special tribute to be included in the display which will honor all the public safety personnel killed during the attacks including 343 membersof the New York City Fire Department. As part of the evening's opening program, members of the fire department will present "the bell ceremony," a fire service tradition which pays tribute to fallenfirefighters in the line of duty.
