DESCRIPTION:“I Hate Hamlet” by Paul Rudnick \nRated PG14(LD)\n\nAUDITION DATES: July 15   a beautiful girlfriend\; the perfect New York apartment\; and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park – Andrew Rally really has it all!  Or does he?  Andrew's TV series has been canceled\; his girlfriend is clinging to her virginity with unyielding conviction\; and he happens to despise the role of Hamlet.  When  Andrew’s agent\, Lillian\,  begins reminiscing about her brief romance with John Barrymore many years ago a séance is planned in order to summon Barrymore’s  ghost to inspire Andrew.  Barrymore “returns” alright\, and from that moment on  Andrew finds that his life is no longer his own and he is forced to choose between art and the almighty dollar.\n\n\nCHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS\n\nAndrew Rally – Young actor – a bit arrogant due to his success on a soap opera. Struggles with the choice between artistic integrity and fameand fortune. Age range:  30-40 \nJohn Barrymore – Booze-soaked\, sword-wielding actor. Acclaimed forhis portrayal of Hamlet. Returns from the dead to train Rally for the role. Age range: 50-80\nDierdre McDavey – Rally’s Girlfriend.  A ditzy\, charming actress. Saving herself for marriage.  Attracted to artistry and talent\, rather than money. Age range: 20-40\nLillian Troy – Rally’s agent.German. Had an affair with Barrymore long ago. Pushes Rally to take the role of Hamlet.  Age range:60-80\nFelicia Dantine – Andrew’s eccentric real estate broker\, claims she can speak to the dead. Perky & positive – but lacks a social filter.  Age range: 20-45\nGary Peter Lefkowitz – Rally’s writer-director-producer friend from Hollywood. Self-absorbed. Encourages Rally to return to television\, mostly for his own gain.
